Cookie Policy

Effective 6 July 2026v1.2

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function correctly, remember your preferences, and understand how you use the site.

2. How Examslayers uses cookies

We use a limited number of cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising, remarketing, or cross-site tracking.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Platform to work. They cannot be disabled.

  • Session cookies — Keep you signed in as you navigate the Platform. Deleted when you close your browser.
  • Authentication tokens — Stored in your browser to keep you securely signed in. They persist until you log out or they expire naturally.
  • CSRF protection cookies — Prevent cross-site request forgery on form submissions.

Functional cookies

These cookies remember choices you make to provide a better experience, such as your region or language preference. They are only set where relevant.

  • Consent preference — Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we don't ask you again.

Analytics

We use two analytics tools to understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it:

Our own first-party analytics — off until you accept. Nothing is collected until you choose "Accept analytics" on the consent banner. You can decline, and change your mind at any time (see Managing your preferences below). If you opt in, we collect the pages you view and the features you use, your approximate device type (mobile, tablet or desktop), and the website that referred you to us, if any — associated with a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser (not your name). If you are signed in, this activity is also linked to your account so we can understand how different groups — for example students, tutors and staff — use the Platform. We keep raw first-party events for up to 12 months, after which they are deleted; only aggregated, non-identifying statistics are retained beyond that.

Metricool — third-party analytics, on by default, opt out any time. We use Metricool, a third-party analytics service, to measure aggregated website usage such as page views, the referring website, and approximate device type. Metricool loads on our pages by default and may set its own cookies so we can measure overall traffic. If you choose "Decline" on the consent banner, Metricool is switched off for you too. Metricool processes this information as our operator under a data-processing arrangement, and may process it outside South Africa under appropriate safeguards; see Metricool's own privacy policy for details.

For all analytics: we do not record your keystrokes, screen or session; we do not sell your data; we do not use analytics for advertising, remarketing or cross-site ad-targeting; and we never use analytics to collect special-category information (such as race, health or financial data).

3. Third-party cookies

Our Platform uses third-party services that may set their own cookies on your device: Metricool for website analytics (see above), and our video-lesson provider for virtual lesson rooms. We do not control third-party cookies. Please refer to each provider's own privacy and cookie policy for more information.

4. Managing your cookie preferences

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most modern browsers allow you to:

  • View which cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete cookies individually or all at once
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Be notified when a cookie is set

Disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the Platform from functioning correctly.

For detailed instructions, consult your browser's help documentation or visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

5. Children and analytics

Examslayers is used by learners under 18, so we take a data-minimisation approach. Our own first-party analytics runs only with consent. Our third-party analytics (Metricool) measures only aggregated, non-identifying website usage and can be switched off by choosing "Decline". We use no advertising or remarketing trackers and no session or screen recording, and we never collect special-category information through analytics. Where we know a user is under 18, analytics is limited to pseudonymous, aggregated usage for improving the educational service, and is governed by our POPIA notice. A parent or guardian may opt out on a learner's behalf at any time.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the Platform or by email before taking effect.
